on Since its debut in 2019, the Changsha International Construction Equipment Exhibition (CICEE) has embedded an international gene into every booth and every dialogue. Spanning ten years and five sessions, CICEE has advanced from following to leading the industry, shifting from product display to standard output. Through continuous self-transcendence, it has written a remarkable story of how a Chinese industrial exhibiton has grown into a world-class industry event, serving as a vivid microcosm of the globalization of China’s construction machinery industry. 2019 Session 1: Charting an International Course with Global VisionThough in its inaugural run, the exhibition demonstrated outstanding global vision with a clear positioning of “internationalization, high-end orientation and professionalism”. It attracted 24 of the world’s top 50 construction machinery enterprises, including industry giants such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Hitachi, Case and Hyundai, with international exhibitors accounting for more than 20% of the total. The organizing committee integrated global resources, invited professional purchasing delegations from over 30 Belt and Road countries, and coordinated group procurement from 11 international industry associations across the United States, India, Spain, South Korea and other nations. Diplomatic envoys including ambassadors, ministers and commercial counselors from 28 countries, together with over 700 overseas officials and industry representatives, attended the opening ceremony and key forums. The inaugural exhibition successfully built an international exhibition and trading platform, delivered a strong Chinese voice to the global construction machinery sector, and established its development positioning of “rooted in China and serving the world”, showcasing China’s determination and strength in moving toward the global industrial arena. 2021 Session 2: Scaling up to World-Class Level with Accelerated Gathering of International ExhibitorsAgainst the backdrop of the pandemic, the second CICEE achieved remarkable growth against all odds. With an exhibition area expanded to 300,000 square meters, it became the largest annual construction machinery exhibition in Asia, realizing a leapfrog upgrade in international scale. The number of participating global top 50 construction machinery enterprises rose to 30. International brands including Hitachi Construction Machinery, Liebherr and Hyundai Heavy Industries showcased their flagship products, while six Fortune Global 500 enterprises such as Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Shell China made their debut appearances, further enriching the international lineup. The exhibition gathered more than 2,000 professional international buyers from 60 countries covering Asia, Europe, America and Australia, with delegations from 8 overseas chambers of commerce. Thirty-six diplomatic representatives from 27 countries participated in various events. By launching online exhibition platforms and VR digital showrooms to expand global trade connections, the on-site transaction volume exceeded 40 billion yuan, doubling the figure of the previous session. International giants increased their investment in CICEE as a strong vote of confidence, marking the exhibition’s official entry into the ranks of world-class industry events. 2023 Session 3: From Product Display to Concept Resonance, Comprehensive Upgrade of International ElementsCentering on the theme of “High-end, Intelligent, Green — New-Generation Construction Machinery”, the third session closely followed global industrial trends, upgrading international cooperation from simple product display to in-depth integration of industry concepts, technologies and ecosystems. A total of 35 global top 50 construction machinery enterprises participated. Caterpillar and Hitachi Construction Machinery launched new China National IV emission standard products onsite, realizing synchronous technological iteration between China and foreign countries. The organizing committee and exhibitors invited over 2,500 representatives from overseas Fortune 500 enterprises and foreign construction central enterprises, while leading Chinese enterprises including Sany and Zoomlion independently attracted 2,000 global industrial chain buyers. Diplomatic missions from 33 countries and 10 international organizations attended the event, together with nine academicians and numerous industry experts. The concurrent Belt and Road International Infrastructure and Engineering Equipment Business Summit gathered delegates from nearly 50 participating countries for in-depth exchanges on policies, projects and technologies. The international exhibition area transformed from a single product display zone into a high-end platform for global exchange of technologies, standards and industry solutions. To further explore overseas markets, the organizing committee held special Southeast Asian sub-exhibitions in 2023, 2024 and 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, targeting RCEP regional markets. These events gathered hundreds of Chinese enterprises and local Southeast Asian agents, building a direct bridge connecting Chinese construction machinery with Southeast Asian infrastructure demands. 2025 Session 4: Pioneering International Symposium Mechanism to Build a New Model of Targeted DockingBased on abundant international resources accumulated in previous sessions, the fourth CICEE innovated international cooperation models by launching exclusive regional business symposiums, setting up targeted docking sessions covering six major regions: Russia, the Middle East, Africa, RCEP regions, Latin America and Southeast Asia. The exhibition reached a new height in global influence, attracting merchants from more than 60 countries, including over 3,000 professional overseas buyers and purchasing delegations from 45 international chambers of commerce. Buyers from Ethiopia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries confirmed bulk orders onsite. Diplomatic envoys from 55 countries, representatives of the African Union in China, 38 international industry associations, over 200 high-end international manufacturing enterprises and more than 300 international trade institutions gathered in Changsha. The organizing committee also launched the global promotion campaign of “Global Tour covering Ten Countries, Hundred Cities and Thousand Enterprises”, holding investment roadshows in Germany, France, Malaysia, Chile and other countries to explore global high-quality purchasing resources. Two landmark cross-border cooperation achievements were realized: mutual recognition of crane certification standards between China and Russia, and mutual recognition of construction machinery industry standards between China and Malaysia. Domestically, Hunan, Zhejiang, Shandong, Anhui and Henan provinces jointly established a construction machinery overseas export alliance. With the support of overseas media and normalized Southeast Asian sub-exhibitions, the “home exhibition + overseas sub-exhibition” global operation model has matured, forming a complete international industrial ecosystem of two-way circulation. CICEE has become a core hub linking the global construction machinery industry. 2027 Session 5: Building a Global Industrial Community and Ushering in a New Era of “Ecosystem Export”At a new starting point, CICEE 2027 further elevates its international strategy. To attract global professional exhibitors and visitors, the organizing committee launched pre-exhibition global promotion activities covering ten countries and regions, including the United States, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Africa, Italy, Spain, Austria, Turkey and Russia. Overseas roadshows supported enterprise docking meetings and industry association cooperation, expecting to attract more than 5,000 professional international visitors. The international business symposiums were further refined into ten regional special sessions covering Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Russia, East Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, focusing on precise and practical transaction docking. Beyond a conventional exhibition, CICEE has evolved into a “super connector” for the global construction machinery industrial chain, innovation chain and value chain. With greater confidence and openness, it leads the global construction machinery industry toward a new era of high-end, intelligent and green development. ConclusionFive sessions of steady development have witnessed CICEE’s international upgrading journey, which is a vivid epitome of the rise of China’s construction machinery industry and the continuous deepening of China’s opening-up. Supported by China’s sound industrial foundation, CICEE has always adhered to the mission of connecting global resources and empowering industrial interconnection. From introducing overseas brands to China and helping Chinese manufacturing go global, to expanding from sporadic trade exchanges to full industrial ecological co-construction, it has steadily consolidated China’s discourse power in the global construction machinery industry. |
